Tyler Smith, M.S.

Tyler is in his final year in the Earth System Science Ph.D. program and is conducting research focused on interactions between humans and the natural world using geoscience education, geocognition, and environmental geology. His work looks at changes in environmental risk perceptions during COVID-19 as well as motivations, benefits, and barriers related to the use of virtual field experiences in the geosciences. Tyler has a BS in Geology and a MS in Environmental Geosystems from Middle Tennessee State University and continues to be involved in environmental research through a project studying the source, distribution, and attenuation of radon in private groundwater wells in rural Alabama.
