Nick's educational journey has taken him from teaching middle school in rural Ohio all the way to the glaciers of Iceland. Trained as both a teacher and geoscientist with particular interests in paleo-science and biogeochemistry, Nick's research sits at the intersection of Earth system science and education.     By studying how students develop systems thinking skills through the lens of biogeochemistry, Nick's research explores how we can better train undergraduate students to begin seeing the Earth as a system consisting of many components and in turn deepen understandings of global change and issues of sustainability.
